What’s Included in the Kit
-
Specimen pot(s) for faecal sample collection
-
Disposable gloves
-
Prepaid, addressed return envelope(s)
-
Easy‑to‑follow instructions
-
Voucher(s) for full laboratory testing
-
(Some kits may also include explanation of results)
How It Works / Usage Instructions
-
Collect fresh droppings from your horse, ideally from multiple parts of a manure pile to get a representative sample.
-
Place the sample into the specimen pot provided, label appropriately, follow the included instructions.
-
Pack the sample in the prepaid envelope and post to the laboratory the same day (or by last‑post) to ensure freshness. Timely postage is crucial for valid results.
-
The laboratory analyses the sample to identify and count parasite eggs (e.g. ascarid, redworm / strongyle, possibly tapeworm depending on the test) and returns the results with an explanation.
Important: Horses should not have been recently wormed (typically 10–14 days) before submitting samples, because residual drug levels may suppress egg output and skew results.
Features & Benefits
- Allows targeted worming (only treat when necessary) rather than routine, blanket deworming
- Helps monitor the effectiveness of your worming schedule and detect resistance
- No hidden or extra laboratory fees beyond what’s provided in the pack
- Straightforward and user‑friendly collection kit
